Sexy Insurance!

Social Networking for the Insurance Industry

Hello All,

Okay, it's a new year and I need to commit to starting, and finishing my CPCU. I have about ten years of insurance experience...roughly 7 as an agent and 3 w/ a personal lines carrier (as a marketing rep, and more recently as a sales director). I have an undergraduate in finance, and a Masters in business.

My question is how much study material do I need? I am planning on doing the self study...however, there are different levels of packages available (from basic to comprehensive). There are also 3rd party vendors that have study materials available (Keir keeps popping up on the radar), which appear to be significantly cheaper than buying direct from the aicpcu website.

I'm willing to make the investment, but don't want to pay for material that I don't need.

Any thoughts or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Jesse,

Congratulations for your new commitment. You did it on my birthday. (Jan. 2) Excellent choice!

I've finished CPCU 555 and will be taking the test soon for CPCU 525. My company pays for my book, and course guide for each CPCU class. That includes a CD with study questions.

I've bought the Keir study guides. I also bought flash cards and the study guides from aicpcu and came to the following conclusion after passing 555. I think it boils down to the amount of sweat equity you're willing to invest. At least that's the way it is for me. I retain the material better if I make the flash cards myself. I use the CD to create the questions for each chapter and I use the book to create flash cards for all the terms in each chapter.

Once I've read a chapter and reviewed it in the study guide I create the flash cards. Once I can get through all the cards I'll take the practice exam for that chapter. If I pass I move on. If things change I'll let you know.

Good Luck,
Sid in Tampa

Thanks Sid!

Best of luck to you as well!

I decided to order the comprehensive study material. I don't want to short-change myself, and would rather feel over prepared, rather than under.

Thanks again,

Jesse
