- Like most, I fell into this industry by mistake! I've come to realize it was the best mistake I've ever made!! I started in the industry as a policy typist and later became the Manager of the very same processing department I started in. I moved on to manage a centralized services unit for the worlds largest E & S Wholesaler. I've enjoyed underwriting, program development (as well as, program management), negotiating contracts with various markets, creating coverage forms, and last but not least..... dealing with butt head agents!
More recently, I have become heavily involved with a particular imaging software company which has landed me on the IT side of the fence. Lets admit it... it's hard to find an IT person who can say they specialize in our industry! Although I'm enjoying my role, I really miss the production world! Currently I travel all over the country teaching production folks how to use an imaging system in lieu of the old paper file system. It's a great gig but like I said, I miss the good ole days :)
I would like to become an independent agent in the sate of NC. I have a very broad knowledge in Property & Casulaty, Professional, Persoanl Lines and Auto. Any takers?

I'm almost in the same boat as you. I got into the industry by chance. I started out as a Classics major (Greek and Latin), then got involved in personal financials advising people in Life insurance, investments, and debt solutions. I ended up as a P&C Underwriter, then moved into IT working on reporting data marts. It is interesting starting out on the business side then going "behind the scenes" into IT. It's like going back stage at a play and seeing all the chaos.
I am studying for my Associates in Surplus Lines Insurance and have just recently obtained my NC Property & Casulaty license. It's nice to be able to interact with like minded propfessionals from all over the world!
Insurance is sexy because like sex it involves enormous risk
